What is the difference between a Category A and a Category B Stair?
A Category A small private spiral stair is intended for use by a limited number of people who are generally familiar with staircase. For example, an internal stair in a dwelling serving one room not being a living room or a kitchen, an external access stair to an office not used by the public, or spiral fire escape stairs for a small number of people.
A Category B private stair in addition to a Category A stair can also provide the main access to the upper floor of a private dwelling.

Floor to Floor measurement: is there any guidance on how you get this measurement?
Use a tape measure or laser measure to measure the vertical distance between finished floor levels.
This is the distance from the finished floor (e.g. paved patio) to finished floor (decking/landing). You will need this measurement before you place your order so we can send you the right spiral staircase kit for your space.
Don't forget to specify the right base plate...
Why do I need to select clockwise or anti clockwise?
This determines which way you walk up the stair and where you step on and step off it.
It may be helpful to review our Technical Layout Diagram to determine where the exit will be.
Why do I need to specify whether the base plate is above or below ground?
If the ground is stable and you want to see the base plate to the stair choose above finished floor level/ground level. If the ground is not load bearing you will need to cast a footing in concrete. This would normally be below the ground or finished floor level and infilled to hide the fixings. If cast below ground level an additional column spacer is required.
Do you provide fixings for securing the top of the stair?
When you make a spiral staircase, you will require fixings in order to secure the top of the stair. We do not supply these as they will vary depending on what you are fixing the stairs to.
How much do your staircase kits weigh?
This will depend on the size of stair you order but most of our staircase kits weigh between 300 and 400kg. With the maximum weight being 400kg.
Please consult your own structural engineer to ensure your foundation is adequate.
What material are your staircase kits made from?
Our kits are fabricated in steel with a nonslip pattern to the treads.
Do you deliver to site?
Yes, we can arrange delivery to site.
Do you deliver outside the UK?
We do not currently offer delivery outside the UK
What are your delivery charges?
Our standard delivery charge to the UK mainland is £150 + VAT. Please contact us for a delivery price outside the UK mainland.
What is your delivery time?
We aim to deliver within 10-15 working days from receipt of order however current delivery time may be up to 4 weeks from order.
Powder coated products require an additional 5 working days lead time.
Delivery will be weekdays between 9am and 5pm.

How will my staircase kit be delivered?
The staircase kit will be delivered on a pallet using a pallet truck with a tail lift. The lorry will be 7.5 tons so it is important that the site is accessible and on level ground so the pallet can be moved away from the vehicle.
Will my delivery require a signature?
Yes. This will be a signed for delivery so please ensure someone is available to receive the order.
A courier will make contact prior to delivery so please ensure you supply a correct telephone number with your order.
What about returns?
As our kits are Made to Order to meet your specification, they are non-refundable, however, if you have ordered the wrong size, please get in touch and we should be able to help rectify any issues.

Will I need lifting equipment during the install?
Yes. For working at height an access tower is recommended and a genie lift for installing the landing.
We would always recommend that our customers undertake a risk assessment before starting their install.
Are there any special tools required for installing the stairs?
We recommend having the following to hand:
- An SDS drill with 12mm SDS drill bit for masonry
- A hacksaw
- A standard drill with a 4mm metal working drill bit
- An adjustable spanner with a 6-20mm range
How long would you estimate a staircase kit takes to install?
This will depend upon the experience of the installers, but we estimate one to two days.
A minimum of two people are required to install our spiral stair kits.
Do you offer an installation service?
Our stair kits are offered as a supply only product for self installation. We don't normally offer an installation service but please get in touch to discuss your requirements and we'll see if we can help.
